Special Envoy of the Russian President: Syria & Russia will never be terrified by economic terrorism

Damascus (ST): The Special Envoy of the Russian President for developing relations with Syria, the Russian ambassador in Damascus Aleksandr Yefimov  affirmed the strength of Syrian Russian relations in all domains.

In a speech he made on Russia’s National Day via internet, Yefimov stressed that Russia and Syria, which managed to be steadfast and overcome many difficulties, and would not be terrified by economic terrorism.

Yefimov  said that the supporters of the policy of sanctions are naïve, because Russia over the past 1000 years, has  experienced many hardships and managed to overcome them, and Syria too has remained steadfast over the long war against terrorism. So, the two states are impossible to be subjugated by economic terrorism.

He added that the Syrian Russian relations are developing steadily and they received a momentum following the historic visit paid by President Vladimir Putin to Damascus last January 7, noting that the visit affirmed the keenness of the two states to further consolidate relations in all domains and delivered a clear message to all enemies, namely that Russia would never abandon its principled stand in supporting the Syrian people.

Yefimov went on to say that we have to think of the forthcoming challenges, because several states, that consider themselves  examples to be followed in humanity and manners, have turned a deaf ear to the recurrent calls made by the UN Secretary General regarding alleviating the sanctions in light of the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. Moreover, he pointed out, these states rushed to tighten these sanctions and extend them.

Yefimov renewed his country’s support for Syria, stressing that cooperation would continue unabated to complete all pending issues, especially the Syrian government liberation of more territories, putting the political process into the practical stage, reconstructing the infrastructure and returning the displaced to their homes.
