US-backed SDF prevent Hasaka’s farmers from transpoting wheat crop to Syrian government’s centers

HASAKA, (ST)_ Farmers of Hasaka province have affirmed that the US- backed “Syrian Democratic Forces” [Its Arabic acronym is QASAD]  prevent them from transporting wheat crop to centers affiliated to the Syrian government.

They said that this act aims to tighten the grip on the people of Syria, who are confronting economic pressures imposed by the US administration.

The farmers made it clear that the US- backed SDF deployed elements onto the main roads, that lead to the government centers for buying cereal grains, with the aim of preventing the delivery of wheat to these centers.

Any car loaded with wheat will be seized and the farmer will be punished if he tries to transport wheat crop to the government centers.

In another development, the Syrian News Agency ( SANA) reported that farmers continue to work tirelessly in Damascus countryside, defying the economic war and the coercive measures imposed on Syria.

“The cold weather pushed the village farmers to start harvesting barley crop amid a clear variation in the production and quality of the crop from one field to another, where the majority of farmers see that this year’s season is similar to the last one in terms of the production,” SANA said.

It quoted  Head of Farmers Union of Damascus and its Countryside, Mohamed Khallouf, as saying that the areas planted with barley in the current season have  reached up to 9,000 hectares, with production estimates of around 15,000 tons, while the areas cultivated with wheat hit about 16 thousand hectares, with production estimates of approximately 48 thousand tons.

Regarding the prices at which the crop is sold, the farmers emphasized that the recent cabinet’s decision to raise the price of receiving the wheat crop from them for the current season from 225 Syrian pounds to 400 Syrian Pound per kilogram encourages farmers to continue implementing the agricultural plan.
