Iran and Russia are calling for the lifting of Western coercive economic measures imposed on Syria

Tehran, (ST) – Iran and Russia called for lifting the unilateral western coercive economic measures imposed on Syria and taking the necessary measures to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people as a result of those measures.

This came during a telephone conversation between the Senior Aide of the Iranian Foreign Minister for Special Political AffairsAli AsgharKhaji and the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister for International Affairs Sergey Vershinin.

Iranian Fars News Agency reported that Khaji and Vershinin discussed in the contact the latest developments in Syria and the meeting of theguarantor’s states of the Astana process and expressed their concern about the plight of the Syrian people due to Western coercive measures.

Khaji condemned the Western unilateral actions, calling for taking the necessary measures to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people.

The two sides also discussed the latest developments in Yemen and the escalation of the humanitarian crisis and stressed the need to reach a political settlement of the crisis in Yemen through the Yemeni Yemeni dialogue.
