TEHRAN, (ST)- Ali Asghar Khaj, a senior assistant to Iran’s Foreign Minister for special political affairs, and Syria’s Ambassador in Tehran Adnan Mahmoud on Saturday discussed the latest developments in Syria and bilateral ties between the two countries.
A statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that Asghar Khaji affirmed his country’s firm support for Syria in its war on terrorism, pointing out that strategic cooperation between Iran, Russia and Syria will continue in the fight against terrorism.
The Iranian official also stressed the importance of continuous consultation and cooperation between Iran, Russia and Turkey within the framework of the Astana process to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria.
He condemned the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the United States on the Syrian people mainly amid the difficult circumstances in Syria and the spread of coronavirus.
Asghar Khaji asserted that it is essential for the international community to support the Syrian people and also the country’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
On his part, the Syrian Ambassador reiterated the need for continuous coordination and consultations between Syria and Iran on all bilateral and regional issues.
