The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates issues instructions regarding the process of returning Syrian citizens stranded abroad

Damascus, (ST) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates issued instructions about the process of returning Syrian citizens stranded abroad due to the measures taken by most countries of the world to restrict the spread of the Corona virus, especially those related to closing borders and restricting travel and air traffic.

According to the Ministry statement, it was agreed that the process of returning Syrian citizens abroad includes “the stranded citizens abroad who left Syria from the following dates 1-1-2020 until 1-5-2020 and students wishing to return to the country due to the suspension of studies in educational institutions in the countries they are present in , as well as officialswho were on mission who were unable to return due to the closure of the inter-State border.

The Ministry clarified that requests to record the names of those wishing to return to Syria from the aforementioned categories are accepted within a period of one week only from Sunday 17-5-2020 until Friday 22-5-2020.

According to the instructions, the repatriation process is limited to Syrian citizens exclusively and non-acceptance of requests from  other nationalities with the exception of the wives of Syrian citizens and minor children of Syrian women. The quarantine for those coming to the country in the centers specified in the governorates will be from the relevant authorities and at the government’s expense.

These instructions come in implementation of the government’s decisions to facilitate the return of Syrian citizens who are stranded abroad as a result of the measures taken by most of the world to restrict the spread of the Corona virus, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates is working hard to coordinate and facilitate the return of citizens wishing to return through flights via Syrian air planes.
