450 billion Syrian pounds allocated to buy the wheat crop for this season

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Prime Minister Imad Khamis on Tuesday chaired the annual meeting dedicated for receiving and marketing the wheat crop for the current season.

During the meeting, a sum of 450 billion Syrian pounds was allocated to receive the entire wheat crop from farmers which is estimated at 2.9 million tons in a cultivated area of 1.355 million hectares.

 An amount of 150 billion Syrian pounds are to be given to the Agricultural Bank as a first payment in order to pay the farmers the price of the crop within a maximum period of 48 hours after delivery.

 To encourage the farmers to sell the stored crop from last year, participants in the meeting agreed on the immediate purchase of the wheat crop  for 2019 at 225,000 Syrian pounds per ton as of Wednesday, May 6th, 2020 until the beginning of next month.
