Damascus (ST): The Ministry of Agriculture has launched the project of producing seedlings through plastic tunnels with the aim of ensuring an income source for poor families.
Chairperson of the Agricultural Guidance Association and one of the supervisors of the project in Jeb Ramla village engineer Manar Fares said that Jeb Ramla village is one of the targeted villages in the project.This project is based on a grant offered by FAO in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Syrian Union of Agriculture Chambers.
She added that the number of beneficiaries from this project in the village would be 30 out of 70 included in the project.
She added that all the equipment including irrigation, seeds and fertilizers would be given free to the farmers, noting that after the germination of seeds (cucumber, tomato, pepper and aubergines), seedlings would be distributed free to 210 farmers in the village.
Fares affirmed that the number of families benefiting from the project in the governorate of Hama would be 490 which would ensure their needs of vegetables and the surplus can be purchased to ensure an additional income without any cost.
