Music Composer Taher Mamli: Culture is an important factor in the reconstruction of Syria

The musical composer, Taher Mamli, has a special place in the world of musical drama composition through the soundtracks and songs that he composed for dozens of Syrian series, which   contributed greatly to the  success of these works and, at the same time,  drew attention to his musical project, which is characterized by its oriental nature mixed with compositions  of multiple cultures.

On his cumulative music project, the musician, Mamli, said in an interview with SANA: “My music project is going on and it is still entrusted to the Syrian drama project because  music in Syria still needs  real production institutions and this is not  available until now.”

The music composer of the “Spot Light”  series,  shows that the obstacles we face in our music projects in general at this stage are caused by the terrorist war on Syria and the migration of many music cadres, as well as the lack of interest in the cultural sector in general and music and singing in particular in addition to the obstacles the Syrian drama industry is facing due to the sanctions imposed on Syria.

Mamli believes that musical life in Syria, during the current circumstance, is less than expected with the exception of some shy  individual attempts . To him, it cannot be  developed unless there are private and public production companies in parallel with enforcement of the law of preserving intellectual property in order to develop this creative field.

The  musical composer of ” Al-Zeer Salem” series, advises young Syrian musicians and singers to work hard , be patient and endure work conditions, no matter how difficult or harsh they are .

He says: “I am optimistic about the young generation of musicians and singers, with the need to support them to achieve their artistic projects in  their country.”

Mamli concluded his speech by emphasizing the importance of culture and its role as an alternative weapon in the reconstruction process of Syria, that  we dream of, calling on  formal and informal national institutions to invest in culture, to protect it against  the control of uneducated capital and the imposition of the profitable consumer thought that lacks human values.

Musician Taher Mamli was born in Aleppo in 1966. He studied music at the Arab Institute in Aleppo and specialized in playing violin. Later on he  studied music at the Barbican Center in London, Britain. When he returned to Syria he continued his studies at the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus, as he was one of the graduates of the first batch in 1996.
