The Hague (ST): Syria’s permanent representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Bassam Sabbagh, stressed that the report of the so-called “Investigation and Identification team” issued by the technical secretariat of the Organization on April 8th included mistaken conclusions, based on false and fabricated information to forge facts and accuse the Syrian government of using toxic, chemical materials in incidents that took place on 24, 25 and 30th of March, 2017 in Latamenah village in Hama.
In a statement to the Organization responding to the report, Sabbagh said that Syria condemns, in the strongest terms, the conclusions included in the illegal report and rejects it, in form and content, pointing out that Syria considers it as an implementation of the wishes of the US and its western allies to target Syria.
The Syrian diplomat clarified that the conclusions of the report are not trustworthy, because its authors are tools used to politicize the Organization work and change it into a platform that serves the objectives of well-known states.
Sabbagh renewed Syria’s call on all member states of the Organization to reject the new fabricated allegations, and its warning against changing the OPCW into a tool to implement the US and its allies’ aggressive plans and a platform to settle political accounts with Syria which is fighting terrorism on behalf of the whole world.
He affirmed that Syria denies any use of toxic, chemical materials in Latamenah or in any Syrian city or village, noting that the Syrian Arab army doesn’t possess such weapons and has never used them.
Sabbagh went on to say that the report has depended on fabricated photos and videos that were broadcast on internet websites or on witnesses presented by armed terrorist groups and the so-called “White Helmets” terrorist organization. He expressed regrets that the technical secretariat of the Organization continues to work with the same policy that lacks professionality, transparency, credibility and neutrality.
Sabbagh concluded affirming that the US has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam , Japan and its occupation of territories in the north east of Syria does not qualify it to talk about accounting other states.
