Erdogan destroys the judicial system, say Lawyers’ syndicates

Ankara, (ST) – Lawyers’ syndicates in major Turkish cities have confirmed that Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s regime has destroyed the country’s judicial system by trying to control it and pursue the opposition figures through the courts.

In a joint statement issued today on behalf of tens of thousands of lawyers, the heads of lawyers’ syndicates in a number of major Turkish cities, including Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir denounced the continuous pursuit  of security authorities in Erdogan’s system of lawyers, journalists, and politicians, and placing many of them in prison on false charges.

In a statement last month, the heads of forty Turkish lawyers’ associations denounced the campaign of arrests by the Erdogan regime against his opponents, especially the journalists who expose his lies.

During the years following the failed coup attempt in July 2016, Erdogan’s regime launched a severe repression campaign targeting its opponents, where tens of thousands of people were arrested and dismissed in various civil and military institutions in the country.
