Poll: Most American Voters Oppose US Military Intervention in Syria

WASHINGTON,(ST)- A new opinion poll showed that an overwhelming majority of Americans are opposed to a potential military intervention by the United States in Syria.

According to a Fox News poll conducted from May 18 to May 20, about 68 percent of the people surveyed opposed the US military intervention and said Washington should not get more involved in the internal affairs of Syria, press tv reported.

About 70 percent of those who were against intervention in Syria were Republicans, 69 percent Democrats, and 65 percent independents.

Syria’s government says the crisis  that has gripped the country for over two years is being orchestrated from outside.

On May 21, the US Foreign Relations Committee voted 15-3 for a bill that would provide lethal assistance and military training to the terrorists  in Syria.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on May 18 that terrorists  from 29 different countries were fighting against the government in different parts of the country.
