Awqaf Ministry extends suspension of Friday and communal prayer in Syria’ mosques till April 16 over coronavirus crisis

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Syrian Ministry of Awqaf (Islamic Endowments) has extended the suspension of Friday and communal prayer in all of Syria’s mosques until April 16.

 Suspension also involved religious lessons and Quran courses in all mosques.

Earlier, the ministry and the Levant Scholars’ Union issued a fatwa suspending Friday and communal prayer in all Syria’s mosques from March 15 to April 4. This period has now been extended until April 16.

 The fataw was issued within the framework of the Syrian government’s preventive measures to control the spread of coronavirus.
