Syria, ICRC discuss cooperation relations to confront new challenges

DAMASCUS, (ST)_Minister of Expatriates and Foreign Affairs Walid al-Moallem has underscored the need not to allow any party to politicize the projects of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), indicating towards the positive cooperation between the Syrian government and the ICRC.

 

Al-Moallem’s remarks were made during  today’s meeting with the president of ICRC Peter Maurer and the accompanying delegation in Damascus.

The meeting dealt with the distinguished cooperation relations between the Syrian government and the ICRC and the need to go ahead with this cooperation.

 

The two sides tackled the positive role of permanent coordination between the Syrian government and the ICRC besides the cooperation with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent in offering services to people, who have been affected by the ongoing terror war and the economic sanctions being imposed on Syria.

 

They, in addition, stressed the importance of going ahead with coordination in confronting  potential challenges in accordance to the principles of Humanitarian work with the aim of meeting the interests of Syrian people.

 

Al-Moallem briefed Maurer on the efforts being made by the Syrian government to ease the suffering of its citizens. He affirmed the government’s keenness on supporting all projects and initiatives that aim to help the Syrian people, who have been affected by the terror war on the country.

 

The Syrian diplomat added that the ICRC’s activities have to cope with the new challenges that emerged in the areas recently liberated by Syrian army from terrorist groups.

 

He called on the committee to exert further efforts to offer aid and to back national programs in the areas recently liberated in Aleppo, Idleb and Hama.

 

On his part, The ICRC’s president thanked the Syrian government for its support to the work of the committee in Syria.
