Ending humanitarian crisis in Syria needs halting terrorism support, lifting the sanctions, facilitating refugees’ return: Ala
GENEVA, (ST)- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva Hussam al-Din Ala has stressed that some countries keep trying to turn the UN Human Rights Council into a platform to target other countries politically in an open violation of the UN Charter.
During a meeting for the UN Human Rights Council on Monday in Geneva, Ala said that the humanitarian situation in Syria is the only one that is discussed in every session of the UN Human Rights Council. “This is the clearest example of the excessive politicization in the work of the council,” Ala added, stressing that the Council’s International Investigation Committee continues to promote groundless accusations against the Syrian government that serve the interest of all who seek undermining Syria and distorting its image.
Ala made it clear that the investigation committee adopts wrong approaches that falsify facts and ignore the Turkish and American illegitimate occupation of parts of Syria’s territories and their looting of the Syrian oil and economic resources.
The committee also ignores the danger of the terrorist organization’s presence in Syria, according to Ala.
Ending the humanitarian crisis in Syria necessitates stopping hypocrisy as well as politicization attempts and investment in terrorism. It also needs creating suitable circumstances for the return of the displaced Syrians to their homeland.
He affirmed that the worst humanitarian crisis is that caused by the economic terrorism being practiced by the United States and the European Union through imposing unilateral coercive economic measures on the Syrians and though the US looting of Syrian oil.
He reaffirmed that Syria is against renewing the mandate of the Investigation committee of the UN Human Rights Council and it rejects its reports which have nothing to do with reality.
Ala reiterated Syria’s determination to protect its citizens from the crimes of terrorism and to defend its lands against the Turkish and US occupation and acts of aggression.
