Turkish Lawyers: Erdogan has requested the arrest of anyone who objects to his policies

On March 8, the chairmen of forty Turkish bar associations denounced the mass arrest campaign  by Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s regime against his opponents, especially journalists who expose his lies.

The chairmen, including the Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir bar associations, explained in a joint statement that the Erdogan regime arrested five journalists within two weeks and issued arrest warrants to the courts and prosecutors to prosecute and arrest anyone who opposes the regime’s internal and external policies.

A few days ago, Turkish media revealed that the Erdogan regime’s security bodies arrested a journalist for exposing the identity of a Turkish intelligence agency official who was killed while supporting terrorist organizations in Libya.

In turn, the leader of the opposition Republican People’s Party(CHP) Kemal Kilcidaroglu condemned the arrests of the journalists.

He said: “The judiciary has turned into a weapon that Erdogan uses against his opponents, especially the journalists who are conveying the truth to the Turkish people while he is trying to hide it.”

In 2014, the International Committee to Protect Journalists ranked Turkey the first country in the world in suppressing press freedoms and imprisoning journalists.

The Turkish regime prohibited demonstrations and gatherings in Istanbul and many Turkish cities on the occasion of International Women’s Day ( 8March) and took strict security measures in this regard.
