Syria wants some western countries to keep in mind that fighting terrorism on its own territory is a legitimate right: Foreign Ministry

DAMASCUS, ST)- An official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement on Thursday that some western countries’ claims that the humanitarian situation in Idleb has worsened because of the Syrian Arab army’s operation there indicate how much these countries’ policies are hypocrite.

These statements also show these countries’ continuous attempts to politicize the Syrian humanitarian file in a way that serves their interests regardless of the Syrians being killed or displaced, the source added.

“Syria would like to remind these countries that fighting terrorism on its own territories is a legitimate right that is guaranteed by international laws and conventions, especially as the terrorist groups which the Syrian Army is fighting are led by Hayet Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly Jabhat al-Nusra) which has been designated by the Security Council as a terrorist organization,” the source made it clear.

While Western countries, mainly France and Germany, are trying to use the humanitarian situation as a pretext to stop the Syrian Army’s military operations against terrorists, they are subjugating to the blackmail attempts of Erdogan who continues to exploit the suffering of the Syrian refugees for his interests, the source went on to say.

The Syrian government reaffirms that it will spare no effort to provide all necessary assistance to all citizens countrywide and to ensure decent life to the people who were displaced because of terrorism and who returned home, the source pointed out.

The source stressed that Syria urges the international community, particularly the European officials, to adopt a true humanitarian stance on Syria and to abandon their cheap colonialist agendas which they keep trying to implement at the expense of the Syrians’ suffering.

Syria also calls on the international community to condemn the aggressive behavior of the Turkish regime which causes more suffering for the Syrians, the source said.
