Russian MoD: Terrorists tried to carry out chemical attack near Saraqib in Idleb countryside

MOSCOW, (ST)- The Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that a group of 15 terrorists have tried to launch a terrorist attack using toxic chemicals near Saraqib in Idleb countryside in a bid to impede the progress of the Syrian Arab army in the fight against terrorism in Idleb.

“On 2 March, a group of up to 15 terrorists attempted to detonate explosive ammunition together with containers full of a poisonous chemical agent. The terrorists aimed to impede the advance of the Syrian army in the western part of Saraqib city and then accuse the Syrian government of using chemical weapons”,the Russian Center for Coordination and Reconciliation in Syria said in a statement on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, the Center said that the so-called “White Helmets” terrorist group had finished filming a staged chemical provocation in order to implicate the Syrian army in the use of chemical materials.

The ministry pointed out that the terrorists failed to tightly seal one of the containers, which resulted in a leak of the chemical materials that led to their poisoning.
