Nebenzya: Sanctions on Syria badly affecting the Syrians’ life, hampering the country’s reconstruction process

NEW YORK, (ST)- Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya has affirmed the need to completely eliminate terrorism in Idleb, reiterating the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria badly affect the life of the Syrians and hamper the country’s reconstruction process.

During a Security Council session on Thursday, the Russian envoy said that the only solution to the complicated situation in Idleb is to permanently expel the terrorists, pointing out that the terrorists are committing crimes of kidnapping and torturing against the locals and they hinder transferring civilians to safer areas.

He added that the terrorists’ control over natural resources in addition to the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria are badly affecting the life of citizens and hindering reconstruction. He pointed out that “Syria is providing all facilitations to UN agencies concerned in humanitarian action and it is sparing no effort to eliminate all obstacles hindering the delivery of aid to those who need, but some parties insists on politicizing this issue.”

On his part, the Chinese Permanent Representative to the UN Wu Haitao reaffirmed the importance of eliminating terrorism in Syria and of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Terrorist organizations in Ideb keep attacking civilians and this necessitates fighting and eliminating them according to Security Council resolutions, said the Chinese envoy.

He asserted the need to continue with efforts to make progress in the political process, which must be a Syrian-led and owned process.
