Putin: The participation of our forces in combating terrorism in Syria thwarts major threats to Russia

The participation of Russian forces in combating terrorism in Syria thwarts serious threats to Russia’s security, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday on the occasion of the Defender of the Fatherland Day.

In a speech delivered at the ceremony held in Moscow, Putin said that the Russian forces destroyed large well-equipped terrorist groups, prevented major threats to our country at a long range and helped the Syrians to defend the sovereignty of the country.

Putin reiterated the Russian state’s intention to provide its armed forces with the most up to date types of weapons, including laser weapons, hypersonic and high-precision systems, confirming that “there are no examples of many Russian weapons in the world, and that there are “promising models for future weapons that have been moved from the stage of testing to a stage of putting them into service. ”

The Russian President also criticized the attempts to distort the image of the Great Patriotic War that the Soviet Union fought against Nazi Germany between 1941 and 1945, noting that the then Red Army fighters helped other countries in liberating them from the Nazi occupiers and their agents, and they didn’t just liberate their lands from the occupation.
