“I hope the conference on resolving crisis in Syria would soon be held’,says Ban

MOSCOW, (ST) – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon “I hope the conference would soon be held on resolving the crisis in Syria, I had spoken to the permanent members of the UN Security Council (Britain, China, France, Russia, United States) to that end,”said UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon .

Ban’s remark came during a visit he made to  RIA Novosti news agency’s central office on Sunday .

“I have been asked by the parties to convene this conference under the auspices of the United Nations and [we] now are actively engaging with all the parties – I have spoken to the US and Russia, the United Kingdom and France, China, all other key parties,” he said. “We are still trying to look at the possibility – window of possibility – in early June, but it’s a matter still for consultation. But it’s sure that we will have conference soon.”

Meanwhile,Lavrov said the conference should take place as soon as possible in order to translate the process into a political course. One of the main tasks of was to decide on the group of participant nations in the conference alongside Syria. He said representatives of the participants in last year’s Geneva conference on Syria should attend, and also neighboring states including Iran and Saudi Arabia.
