PM: Aggression forces tighten economic siege against Syria, priority is given to improving living conditions

Prime Minister Imad Khamis affirmed  that following the great  victories realized by the Syrian Arab Army in its war against terrorism, the colonialist forces tightened the economic siege being imposed on Syria with the aim of fighting the citizens in their livelihood and makeing them rebel against the state, stressing that the state institutions have been working to ease the suffering of citizens resulting from the increase  of prices.

Interviewed by Syrian TV, engineer Khamis said that throughout the crisis, the terrorist organizations, supported by the conspiring states have been targeting the components of the  state and the components of economy through attacking the infrastructure, energy resources, factories, facilities and farms which has negatively reflected on the life of Syrian citizens and imposed great challenges on Syrian people’s life and additional burdens on the Syrian state.

Khamis said that before the start of the terrorist war, Syria used to have 9 thousand Mega of electricity which was enough to meet its needs, but this amount has decreased to 1200 M.W. adding that Syria also used to produce 385 thousand oil barrels daily and this amount dropped to zero, and it used to produce 26 million cubic meters of gas daily and this amount dropped to  5 million cubic meters.

The Premier noted that when the terrorist war against Syria started, the aggression forces used military, political and economic ways to destroy the Syrian state, but the rallying of the Syrian people around their army and their high awareness of the conspiracy plotted against their homeland have foiled the schemes of the enemies.

Khamis went on to say  that the state has ensured stability for more than four million displaced people in spite of the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on our country and this is considered  a message for the world that the Syrian state is keen on providing the needs of its citizens no matter how ferocious the war has become.

He clarified that the main focus of the government work has been dedicated to rebuilding economy and meeting citizens’ needs, pointing out that after the liberation of vast areas from terrorism by the Syrian Arab Army, the colonialist forces stepped up their war against Syria through igniting different fronts, in addition to the Turkish occupation of a number of areas in northern Syria, and tightening the economic blockade on Syria in parallel with stealing the Syrian oil by the U.S. which has had economic consequences. He referred to the measures and steps which have been taken by the state institutions to alleviate the suffering of the citizens due to the increase of the prices and to provide their basic needs with suitable prices.

Khamis said that over the past years, thousands of factories have been re-operated and tens of companies reopened, and there has been great economic activity, but the enemies of Syria didn’t like that, therefore, they started a new scenario of the war which is the economic war through tightening the economic siege.

Regarding the Syrian pound, Khamis said the measures taken by the Central Bank of Syria (CBS) are based on the developments imposed by the war, stressing that they aim mainly to support the production process in all of its development dimensions.

Khamis asserted that combating corruption has begun and it is the most important file for the government, noting that fighting corruption is being done on two fronts the legislative and the executive.

As regards the demands of the families of martyrs and the wounded members of the Syrian Arab army, the prime minister stressed that the government has been working to meet these demands.

The Prime minister concluded stressing that despite the terrorist war launched against Syria, Syria has been steadfast is realizing important economic achievements through a transparent institutional system.
