Al-Jaafari: Restoring complete stability requires dealing with the challenges of terrorism

New York (ST):  Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari stressed that restoring security and stability to Syria completely requires dealing with the main terrorist challenges, referring to some states are hindering the operations of the Syrian Arab Army against terrorism in Idleb and Aleppo with the aim of raising the morale of terrorists.

During a Security Council’s session on the situation in Syria, al-Jaafari said  that al-Nusra terrorist organization, which is al-Qaeda’s branch in Syria and other terrorist organizations affiliated to it, control most of Idleb city and they continue their attacks on the neighboring areas and on the army’s positions.

Al-Jaafari added that Syria adopted the political solutions to deal with the status quo and it has given them enough time, and it has always dealt seriously with all the initiatives including the understandings of Astana and Sochi, and it has committed to them out of its keenness to protect the lives of the Syrians and end their suffering.

Al-Jaafari said that the envoys of some states were trying to promote fabricated accusations with the aim of hindering the operations of the Syrian Arab army against terrorism in the governorates of Aleppo and Idleb with the aim of raising the morale of terrorists. He wondered what the governments of these states will do in case terrorists occupied an area in their country and targeted civilians in nearby areas with rockets. Will they accept to allow someone to call the members of that organization “moderate armed opposition and support them  depending on humanitarian level?

He went on to say that over the nine years of crisis in Syria, four UN Special envoys have tried to find a solution to the crisis, but they failed because  some states which are members of the Security Council and outside it, have depended on the force instead of the law to achieve their own political agendas ignoring the UN Charter, the principles of the international law and the good neighborliness  relations at the expense of Syria’s stability.

Al-Jaafari affirmed that some states continue to lie, and they continue the policies of interference to undermine the security and stability in  the Middle East.

Regarding the so-called  “Deal of the Century”, al-Jaafari said it is a unilateral act and an aggression against the UN itself as it represents an unprecedented disregard for its resolutions which are related to the Palestinian cause, and a desperate attempt by Washington to draw a new colonial scheme for the region, and a repetition of the crime committed by Britain more than one hundred years ago which is represented in the Balfour Declaration in service of the Israeli occupation and its expansionist and hostile schemes at the expense of the Arab rights and interests in a blatant violation of the international law and the UN Charter and its resolutions. He stressed the necessity of putting an end to the Israeli occupation of the Arab territories and halting the expansionist Israeli settlement policy in the occupied Arab territories.

Concluding his speech, Al-Jaafari reaffirmed that Syria’s message is that of peace from a strong position and not from a weak one, and that Syria strongly believes in the principle of the equality in the sovereignty between the states,  stressing that the colonialist scheme will fail and it will be defeated by the strong will of the Syrian people.
