Syrian government, UNICEF discuss boosting education cooperation

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad discussed during a meeting on Sunday with Ted Chaiban, the Regional Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for the Middle East and North Africa, ways to enhance coordination and cooperation between the Syrian government and UNICEF.

Al-Mikdad said that the Syrian state accords special attention to providing education to all Syrian children at various educational levels, noting the distinguished cooperation between the Ministry of Education and UNICEF to compensate the children, who were deprived of education because of the circumstances imposed by the terrorist war on Syria, with education. This cooperation has continued despite all attempts by the terrorist organizations to disrupt the educational process in Syria.

Al-Mikdad stressed the disastrous impact of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and western countries on children and their basic services, urging UNICEF to shed light on this dangerous issue through its reports.

On his part, Chaiban hailed that close cooperation between the Syrian government and UNICEF, referring to the organization’s important activities in Syria, including rehabilitating and renovating the schools destroyed during the terrorist war on Syria and launching vaccination campaigns targeting children all over Syria in cooperation with the health and education ministries.

He highly appreciated the Syrian government role in facilitating aid deliveries to Syrian children.
