US military presence in Syria is illegal by all standards: Zasypkin

BEIRUT, (ST)- Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin has affirmed that the US military presence in Syria is illegal by all standards, pointing out that the American provocative and aggressive practices are responsible for the current escalation in the region.

In a TV interview last night, Zasypkin said that “Russia supports international legitimacy and the demands of the countries that want foreign forces out of the region,” clarifying that the presence of Russian forces in Syria aims at combating terrorism and preventing its spread.

 He stressed that Russia’s future stances will focus on encouraging solutions and restoring security in the Gulf and the Middle East, reiterating Moscow’s adherence to the nuclear deal signed with Iran and its rejection of American logic in dealing with this deal.
