Oman’s Sultan passes away aged 79 after 50 years in power

MUSCAT, (ST)- Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman passed away on Friday aged 79, the Omani Diwan of Royal Court announced in an obituary.

The Omani News Agency said on its website and twitter account that the Diwan of Royal Court has declared a state of mourning and the halt of official work in the public and private sectors for three days and the flying of flags at half-mast over the forthcoming 40 days

Sultan Qaboos ruled Oman 50 years. He had no children and had not appointed a successor.
