Tehran, (ST) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed that American terrorist measures threaten the security of the region, noting that the crime of assassinating General Qassem Soleimani is a violation of all international laws.
Rouhani stressed, during a phone call with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson today, that Iran’s response to the United States and the bombing of its military base in Iraq is in line with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter to do with self-defense, explaining that if the Americans made another mistake, the response would be much more dangerous this time.
Rouhani explained that the basis of all recent security threats is Washington’s withdrawal from the nuclear agreement and its illegal measures. He said that “if Europe returns to its obligations of the nuclear agreement, we will also restore our own obligations and Tehran will continue to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency, which will continue to supervise Iran’s nuclear activities.”
Rouhani called on Britain not to submit to the United States and reconsider its positions on the issue of the assassination of Soleimani.
Johnson, in turn, expressed his regret and sympathy for the incidents that occurred in Iran during the past week, and expressed his concern about the destabilization of security in the region.
Johnson also stressed during the call the need to improve relations between Tehran and London, considering that the nuclear agreement is of great importance in strengthening international security and calling for the need to make efforts to maintain it.
