PA Speaker, Premier, ministers visit the Iranian Embassy in Damascus to offer condolences on martyrdom of Soleimani

DAMASCUS, (ST)-The Iranian Embassy in Damascus continued for the second consecutive day to receive people who flocked to extend their condolences on the martyrdom of General Qasem Soleimani and his companions as a result of a US airstrike that targeted their convoy on Friday in the Iraqi capital.

Speaker of the People’s Assembly (PA) Hamoudah al-Sabbagh, Prime Minister Imad Khamis, Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem in addition to a number of ministers as well as popular, party and religious delegations and a number of Syrian Army officers offered their condolences.

 In a speech the PA Speaker hailed Soleimani’s role in fighting terrorism in Syria, stressing that the crime of assassinating Soleimani will strengthen the determination of  the axis of resistance in confronting colonialist schemes in the region.

The Prime Minister, on his part, said that freedom-loving peoples, particularly the Syrians won’t forget martyr Soleimani and that his martyrdom will enhance adherence to resistance and consolidate the Syrians’ resolve to eliminate terrorism and liberate the Syrian territories from terrorists and invaders.

Speaking to reporters, Information Minister Imad Sara described the US crime of assassinating Lt. gen Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and their companions as organized state terrorism.

He added that the United States claims that it respects international law, human rights and the sovereignty of countries while it is the first to violate laws, rights and sovereignty, stressing that this crime won’t weaken the axis of resistance.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad addressed those who have assassinated Soleimani saying “we would like to say that they won’t be able to run away, and that martyr Soleimani has left behind millions of those who would follow the same path- the path of martyrdom and struggle.
