Terrorists continue illegal excavations in Afrin to steal Syrian antiquities

Aleppo, (ST)- In an attempt to obliterate the Syrian historical identity and its cultural heritage, the Turkish-backed terrorist groups continue to carry out illegal excavations in Afrin area in the northwest of Aleppo to steal Syrian antiquities and distort the country’s archeological sites.

According to local and media sources, the terrorists of the so-called (Suleiman Shah) organization, which is affiliated to the Turkish regime, continue to demolish and raze the commercial stores adjacent to Al-Tahtani Mosque in the town of Sheikh Hadid in Afrin region of Aleppo, in search for antiquities in order to steal and smuggle them to Turkey to be sold later.

The sources pointed out that the digging and excavation activities by the terrorists are part of similar acts that have been carried out by the terrorists of the so-called “al-Hamzat” terrorist group since mid December in the village of Jouqa that is located in the countryside of Afrin, where the terrorists intentionally dug up several sites that are located between the villages of Jouqa and Kukan, including “Sheikh Jamal Al-Din” shrine.

According to local witnesses, the terrorists removed several bags from the excavation sites.

During the terrorist war on Syria, terrorist groups, directed and led by Turkish, US and French archaeologists and excavation experts, carried out excavations in Syrian archaeological sites and stole a lot of artifacts aiming at undermining  the Syrian cultural heritage.

This behavior  constitutes a war crime that is added to the other crimes that have been committed against the Syrian people and its civilization during the global war waged against Syria by its enemies, including the Turkish regime and the United States.
