December 31, Iranian Foreign Minister’s Senior Assistant for Special Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji stressed that the deployment of the Syrian Arab Army in the border areas with Turkey would establish security and stability in all parts of Syria and perpetuate the sovereignty of the Syrian state over its lands.
In a statement to reporters after his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Muallem, Khaji said that his visit to Syria comes within the framework of political meetings that are taking place regularly with Syrian officials to discuss and follow up the latest political developments related to the Syrian issue and regional and international affairs.
“There are close views between the two sides on the developments of the Libyan arena,” Khaji said.
He pointed out to Syria’s positive and constructive role in dealing with the work of the Syiran Constitutional Committee.
In response to a question about the Iranian position on the ongoing American aggressions on the Syrian and Iraqi lands, Khaji said that the Iranian and Syrian positions are close in this regard, and Iran fully condemned the Israeli attacks on Syria during the Ankara meeting.
He also referred to the position of Syria, which condemned the recent American military attack on Iraqi territory, and Iran’s clear position in this regard that has been expressed by Iranian officials.
Khaji stressed that Iran and Syria totally oppose and reject any presence of American forces on Syrian soil, and there is a serious and urgent demand for the withdrawal of these forces as soon as possible.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Faisal al-Miqdad said that Syria and Iran are in one war against terrorism and urged the international community to stand by them in this war.
Al-Miqdad called on the countries involved in supporting terrorism, including the United States of America, to stop this support because the world revealed its ugly face, especially after the bloody American aggression against the Iraqi Popular Mobilization.
“ We are always ready to offer sacrifices in defense of the territorial integrity, people, and sovereignty of Syria, and that any foreign, American, or other illegal presence on Syrian soil will be dealt with as unlawful aggression and occupation of Syrian lands, and this is our permanent position towards the aggressive policies of the United States of America In the region and its continued support for the Israeli occupation of the Arab Palestinian and Syrian lands,” Al-Miqdad said.
In response to a question about the Syrian position on the Turkish incursion into the Syrian territories and what are called ‘the Turkish Observation Points’, Al-Miqdad said that Syria knows the Turkish President Erdogan’s intentions but will treat any Turkish presence on the Syrian lands as an occupation.
