Conclusion of the final qualifying tests for the Syrian Scientific Olympiad

Today, the final qualifying tests for the Syrian Scientific Olympiad for the year 2019-2020 were concluded.

The final qualifications were held by the Excellence and Creativity Commission in mathematics, physics, chemistry, informatics and biology with the participation of 411 students who represent the scientific elite from various governorates.

The final qualifications included two rounds of tests over a period of two days to choose the members of the national teams that will participate in international Olympiad competitions next year.

 

In a statement to SANA, Malik Hammoud, Director of the Media Office at the Excellence and Creativity Commission, said that the central scientific committees in the administration of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad began to correct the answer papers and will take the outcome of the two rounds, according to which the final ranking of the marks and the ranking of the participants will be calculated. 

Hammoud said that the number of qualified students has increased to 15 top students in each specification instead of 10 ones.

Hammoud pointed out that the 15 top students will be honored and crowned in each specialty, while the first three students will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals in addition to material prizes during a ceremony which is scheduled to be held today at the Palace of Conferences in Damascus.

Hammoud considered that reaching the final qualifying stage is an important achievement and success for students in their academic career.

Member of the Central Scientific Committee for Physics at the Syrian Scientific Olympiad, Dr. Aqeel Salloum, highlighted the efforts made by students to reach the last stage of competitions.

Dr. Obai Sandouk , Chairman of the Scientific Committee for Informatics at the Syrian Scientific Olympiad considered the Olympics as a pioneering experience at the level of Syria to discover and take care of the  distinguished people and to develop the student’s thought.

A number of students confirmed in interviews with SANA that the questions of the two round tests were characterized by accuracy and the need for deep thinking, expressing their hope of winning the first positions to be among the national teams of the Syrian Olympiad.

The students said that the Olympics gave us self-confidence and the courage to express our thoughts without hesitation or fear, confirming that the Olympics is an opportunity to enhance students’ educational and social culture and develop their understanding of life.

The Syrian Scientific Olympiad competitions for the 2019-2020 were launched at the school level on the 14th of last October with the participation of more than 75 thousand male and female students of the first secondary schools from various governorates and then continued at the level of governorates up to the current final stage.
