Greece: Erdogan’s plans to send troops to Libya are new Ottoman expansion

The Greek government has denounced the statements of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about sending troops to Libya, describing them as “a new Ottoman expansion.”

“Erdogan is playing with fire and all he can do is to isolate himself more,” Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Meltadis Varvitsiotis  told the Greek  Sky Radio, adding that “Athens is on the alert and the reactions to the new Ottoman expansion are intensified and they come from everyone east and west.”

The Greek official indicated that his country is working to internationalize the issue of Turkish provocations with the aim of preserving security and stability in the region.

Erdogan had talked on Thursday about his expansionist ambitions and Ottoman illusions to reoccupy the region and announced his intention to send Turkish forces to Libya and make the Parliament, which his party controls, vote on this issue next month.
