New York, (ST) – The UN special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, reiterated the need for finding a political solution for the crisis in Syria in accordance with the UNSC resolution No. 2254 which calls for respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a briefing to the UN Security Council, Pedersen said that it was not possible to hold sessions within the 2nd round of the committee of discussing the constitution in Geneva in late November because of the parties’ disagreement on the agenda, expressing hope that a date for the forthcoming round would be fixed.
He affirmed that the work of the committee of discussing the constitution should be under leadership of Syria completely, based on principles which call for respecting Syria’s sovereignty according to UN resolution No. 2254 in a way that contributes to finding a political solution to the crisis.
