Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder hold their own exhibition in Lattakia

Caring for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has its unique challenges. There are many things you can do to help them overcome these challenges and integrate into society.  Marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, The Autism Association in Lattakia has recently held an exhibition of handmade products to shed light on the children’s with ASD talents and creativity   in various fields.

The three-day event exhibited artworks of beads, raw wax, gypsum, paper and 45 paintings in oil and water colors.

Head of the Autism Association Shahida Salloum   said in a statement to SANA correspondent the exhibition aims   to raise awareness of the community about this category and to emphasize the children of ASD ability to be active and productive individuals if appropriate conditions are provided for them.

She indicated that the exhibition this year is characterized   by the children’s participation in “Hawakir” initiative to plant a number of laurel trees at the entrance of Lattakia province.

On his part, the plastic artist Hussam Abu Assi from Sweida governorate underlined the importance of artists’ participation in the exhibition to encourage and enhance the children’s with ASD confidence in their abilities.

His paintings’ topics varied between portraits, rich and beautiful rural nature in Lattakia and woman who is the symbol of goodness and giving.

It is noteworthy  to say that The Autism  Association in Lattakia was  established  in 2006  and provides a series of health and requalification  services for  children with ASD  of different ages, in addition to  carrying out training courses for  their families  to  help them understand how to deal with their children and refine their behavior and know the cases they may go through.
