Algiers (ST): Polling centers were opened before Algerian citizens this morning to cast their votes in the presidential elections.

The Independent elections committee said that about 24 million Algerians are eligible for voting including 900 thousands living abroad.

Five candidates are competing in the elections including two former premiers: Ali Bin Flees and Abdul Majid Tabboun.

Interim Algerian President Abdul Qader Bin Saleh said that the elections constitute an historic opportunity for advocating democracy, social justice and building the state of institutions in Algeria.
