Unifying the treatment protocols for oncology.. Al-Bairuni Hospital records 9,000 new cancer cases and free services

In parallel with the work to unify the treatment protocols for oncology at the national level, the government health institutions continue to provide free treatment for cancer patients with the most up to date global developments in terms of diagnosis, management and follow-up, according to specialists.

At the annual scientific conference of the Syrian Association of Oncologists, which gathered about 200 specialists at the Conference Palace in Damascus at the end of last week, the Association’s President, Dr. Muhammad Qadri, told SANA that updating and unifying the protocols of oncology in Syria is a national project adopted by the National Committee for Cancer Control in cooperation with the agencies working in this regard  depending on the latest international protocols, and in line with the facilities and capabilities of local oncology centers.

This unified protocol will be the workbook for doctors.

Member of the National Committee for Cancer Control Dr. Maha Manashi  said that the treatment protocols will be “binding” and applied in all centers in the governorates, noting the advancement of drug therapy for breast cancer globally, which increases the chances of recovery , especially in cases of early detection.

The Director of Al-Bairuni University Hospital for Oncology, Dr. Ihab Al-Nakri, stated that the hospital is still providing diagnostic, treatment and monitoring free of charge services despite the circumstances of the crisis, revealing that the number of new cases since the beginning of this year until the end of last October has reached 9100 cases compared to about 12 thousand cases in 2010.

Head of the Department of Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, Damascus University, and the Head of the Breast Cancer Division at Al-Bairuni Hospital, Dr. Maher Seifu spoke in his lecture about the uses of complementary treatments in early breast cancer.

The conference included specialized lectures on developments in the treatment of breast, colon, rectal and brain cancers.

Head of the Doctor’s Union, Dr. Abdel Qader Hassan, underlined the importance of the conference in exchanging experiences and incessant training and qualifying of graduate students, noting the local national experiences that parallel the global ones and continue to work despite the conditions imposed by the terrorist war on Syria.
