The UN General Assembly renews by a majority of votes its demand that Israel must withdraw from the entire occupied Syrian Golan

New York, ST- The United Nations General Assembly renewed by a majority of votes its demand that “Israel” should withdraw from the entire occupied Syrian Golan Heights  to the line of June 4, 1967 in implementation of the relevant Security Council resolutions.

Last night, the General Assembly, in its resolution entitled “The Syrian Golan”, which is submitted directly to the General Assembly under the item entitled “The situation in the Middle East”, reaffirmed the fundamental principle of the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by force in accordance to international law, the Charter of the United Nations and the applicability of the Geneva Convention relative to the Civilians during the war on the occupied Syrian Golan.

The General Assembly condemned the non-compliance of Israel until now with Security Council resolution 497 of 1981, affirming that the decision of Israel of 14 December 1981 to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the occupied Syrian Golan is null and has no legitimacy whatsoever, demanding that Israel cancel its decision.

The acting Chargé d’affaires of the Permanent Mission of Syria to the United Nations, Minister Counselor Dr. Luay Falouh, reiterated that Syria’s sovereign right over the occupied Syrian Golan until the line of June 4, 1967 is not subject to negotiation or concession and can never fall into obsolescence and will not give up its right to restore its occupied territory by all means guaranteed by the Charter and the principles of international law and United Nations resolutions.

Fallouh reiterated Syria’s condemnation in the strongest terms of the US administration’s resolutions, which constitute a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter and the relevant resolutions of the United Nations, and considered  it a mere unilateral act by a party that does not have political, legal or moral capacity to decide the fate of the peoples of the world or to act on lands that do not belong to it .

Falouh pointed out that the blind support provided by the governments of a number of member states of this organization encouraged Israel to continue its  violations of international law and the provisions of the UN Charter, as it  launched repeated attacks on Syria and neighboring Arab countries. Israeli occupation also  continued its  attempts to change the history of the occupied Syrian Golan and steal its resources. In addition to the establishment of the so-called “local council elections”, all of which are serious violations of international and humanitarian law, all this is ignored due to double standards and blatant hypocrisy that exceeded all limits.

Falouh explained that the Israeli occupation could not have exacerbated its threat to the regional and international peace and security without the support provided by some governments of the states at the United Nations through their political, military, economic and financial support to it. These states are always trying to cover up Israel’s crimes in international forums.  This of course makes these governments a direct partner in the crimes of the Israeli occupation.

Falouh reiterated Syria’s firm stand in supporting the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, while guaranteeing the right of refugees to return to their homes in accordance with resolution 194 of 1948, demanding that the State of Palestine be granted full membership in the United Nations. In addition, the United Nations should take immediate measures to put its resolutions into practice to end the Israeli occupation of the occupied Arab territories.
