Al-Moallem stresses Syria’s support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, regrets UN’s inability to enforce its resolutions

DAMASCUS, (ST)- In a message of solidarity marking the International Day for Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Syria’s Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid Al-Moallem reiterated that Syria supports the right of the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and establish an independent state and backs the Palestinian refugees’ right to repatriation pursuant to international Resolution No. 194 of 1948.

Al-Moallem’s message was delivered on Wednesday during the annual meeting of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP).

He regretted the UN inability to enforce its resolutions and compel the Israeli occupation’s authorities to stop its war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied Palestinian territories and to respect the international law and human rights conventions.

He pointed out that Israel continues its crimes and violations of the international legitimacy because of the continuous support being provided by some Security Council member states.

Al-Moallem reiterated that the US President’s decisions in which he recognized the annexation of al-Quds and the occupied Syrian Golan to the Israeli occupation in addition to his attempt to pass the so-called “Deal of the Century” are all part of the scheme to liquidate the historical and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and those of the peoples of the rest of the occupied Arab territories in Golan and south Lebanon.

The Syrian top diplomat explained the support that has been provided by Israel to the terrorist organizations in Syria for more than eight years in order to weaken Syria’s role in defending the firm and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.

Concluding his message, al-Molallem renewed Syria’s call on UN member states to assume their responsibilities towards ending the suffering of the Palestinian people and adopt tangible steps to end the Israeli occupation of the Arab territories including the Syrian Golan, to force Israel to withdraw to the June 4th 1967 lines and to help establish the independent Palestinian state with al-Quds as a capital in accordance with the Security Council Resolutions No. 338 and 497.
