Agriculture Ministry, FAO sign four cooperation agreements

Four cooperation agreements on agricultural planning and statistics and on developing the National Agricultural policy, agricultural Education and fish wealth were signed yesterday, between the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The agreements provided for updating the Agricultural policy Center ‘s database by FAO depending on modern techniques, for developing the agricultural education curricula to obtain better outputs and graduate qualified agricultural technicians who are capable of entering the labor market. In addition, the agreements provided for the development of the agricultural policy center in order to work out suitable plans to develop the agricultural sector, rehabilitate the fish wealth sector and train breeders and fishermen to achieve sustainability in production.

FAO Representative in Syria Mike Robson said in a statement to SANA, “what distinguishes these agreements is the financial funding by FAO and the member states”, expressing his hope that these resources will be used in the best way.

He underscored that agricultural statistics and accurate data help make the decision and work out appropriate plans, pointing out that agricultural education is an important strategic project because its impact is great on many generations.

“The work of the National  Agricultural Policy center  is similar to our work and we are committed to supporting this center and evaluating  the situation there and developing it ,” Robson added, noting the need to develop the fish wealth  sector.
