Speaker Sabbagh: Syria is open to dialogue and cooperation with parliamentary and diplomatic delegations

On November 24, the Speaker of the People’s Assembly (Parliament) Hamoudeh Sabbagh met a German parliamentary delegation headed by MP Frank Pasemann.

During the meeting, Sabbagh said that Syria is open to dialogue and cooperation with all parliamentary and diplomatic delegations. He called on the delegation members to honestly convey what they witnessed in Syria to the German and European public opinion.

Sabbagh said that the sanctions have affected the Syrian people, wondering how some states and governments, including Germany, can claim to be fighting terrorism when they support the aggression against Syria.

For his part, Pasemann said that German mass media is attempting to disform facts about the situation in Syria.

He said that prior to their visit to Syria, the delegation members submitted a memo to the Bundestag (German parliament) on restoring diplomatic relations with Syria and lifting the sanctions imposed on it.

Pasemann said that their work will focus on projects that serve the two countries, including the establishment of an office in Damascus and Berlin for joint cooperation at the political, economic and social domains in order to build a direct channel of communication with the Syrian government.

“We have goals and a common mechanism of action and projects that we would like to achieve between the Alternative for Germany Party and the Syrian government,” Pasemannsaid to reporters after the meeting.
