The water began to gradually gather in al-mzyryb Lake in the western countryside of Daraa after it was completely dried and went out of service during the last period.
The water level in al-mzyryb Lake has decreased during the past years as a result of encroachments and drilling of illegal and random wells in the surroundings of the lake, which is the most important water sources and the most prominent tourist destinations in the province of Daraa.
Director of Water Resources Eng. Munir Al-Odeh said in a statement to SANA reporter that the excessive depletion of al-Mzyrybsprings water during the crisis led to the complete drying of the lake and the suspension of all drinking water projects.
Al-Odeh pointed out that some springs in the governorate of Dara’a became seasonal due to the excessive depletion of water.
Al-Odeh stressed that some water drops has began to appear in the lake floor and will return as it was previously within a month, underlining the need to find a radical solution to the irregular wells to prevent the lake from drying up again during nextsummer.
It is noteworthy that al-Mzyryb Lake covers an area of 105 thousand square meters and is one of the most popular tourist sites in the province of Daraa.
