DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Indonesian Embassy in Damascus on Monday held a reception to celebrate Indonesia’s 74th Independence Day attended by Syria’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad, a number of ministers, senior Syrian officials and heads of diplomatic missions in Syria.
The Indonesian Ambassador to Syria Wajid Fauzi said in a statement during the ceremony that his country’s embassy never stopped providing its services in Syria even during the crisis in the country, pointing out that the embassy’s activities have aimed at enhancing bilateral ties between Indonesia and Syria.
“Syria supported my country 74 years ago when it was struggling to win its independence,” Fauzi said, expressing hope that Syria will recover from the crisis that have been hitting it over the past nine years.
On his part, al-Mikdad reaffirmed the deep-rooted friendship between Syria and Indonesia that goes back to more than 72 years during which the two countries exchanged support in different issues.
He made it clear that Syria supported Indonesia’s fight to win independence in the late 1940s and Indonesia has been supporting Syria’s war on terrorism.
The celebration included some artistic shows including folk dances representing the Indonesian traditions and calling for cooperation and friendship between peoples of the world.
