Velayati: Washington’s new strategy based on targeting countries, looting their resources

TEHRAN, (ST)- Ali Akbar Velayati, the Senior Advisor for International Affairs to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has stressed that the US strategy in the Middle East is based on targeting and weakening the region’s countries and looting their resources.

In a statement in Tehran on Saturday, Velayati said that “after the failure of the US New Middle East strategy and proxy wars in west Asia region, the force of world arrogance led by the United States has taken new steps to achieve its goals in protecting the Zionist entity’s security and controlling the economic and energy resources of the region.”

The Iranian official made it clear that “the new American strategy is based on controlling the infrastructure as well as the oil resources and facilities of countries and looting their wealth. It aims at making the governments of the region’s countries unable to meet requirements of development and consequently unable to confront any proxy attacks by the Zionist entity or any direct attack by the United States itself.”

In the same context, Iran’s Defense Minister, Brigadier General Amir Hatami said that the only way to counter the US sanctions on Tehran is to increase and boost Iran’s power in all effective components, especially the defense power.
