Syria, Iran discuss economic ties, developments in the region

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Prime Minister Imad Khamis on Wednesday discussed with Mojtaba Zonnour, Chairman of Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, the economic relations between Syria and Iran in the light of the current developments in the region.

The importance of finding new prospects of cooperation and benefiting from the private sector expertise to activate trade exchange and expand economic investments in the coming era  was also discussed.

Khamis stressed that Syria-Iran relations are increasingly deepening particularly in the economic and political fields as a result of exchanging government delegations and forming follow up committees that implement the signed economic agreements and open the way for signing new agreements that benefit the two countries.

 The government’s efforts are being intensified to ensure the best investment of local resources and to mobilize human and financial potentials to alleviate the impacts of the war on citizens livelihood, said Khamis, adding that the efforts also concentrate on drawing up strategic plans to fortify the national economy during the coming era.

On his part, Zonnour said that the Syrian-Iranian counter-terrorism efforts have further strengthened historical relations between the two countries, stressing that these relations will continue to be enhanced after Syria achieves complete victory over terrorism.

He expressed his country’s desire to exchange expertise and successful experiences in the era of reconstruction in Syria, mainly in the domains of energy, agriculture, infrastructure, roads and strategic industries.
