Syria and Iran sign MoU to localize technology and electrical equipment industry in Syria

Tehran, (ST) – Syria and Iran signed a Memo of Understanding (MoU) for developing and settling the electricity system in Syria and localizing technological and electrical equipment industry in Syria.

Minister of Electricity Mohammad Zouhair Kharboutli and Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian signed the MoU which includes work on rebuilding the electricity system in Syria, localizing the electrical equipment industry and establishing power generation plants and transporting and distributing networks.

It also includes joint investments and exchanging technical information for establishment of new forms of power generation and renewable energy plants.

The Memo also stressed work on enhancing the three-way electrical connection among Syria, Iran and Iraq.

In a statement following the signing cermony, the two ministers stressed the serious determination of both sides to implement the Memorandum of Understanding with the required speed and continuous work for the development and localization of the technology and electrical equipment industry in order to restore the electrical system in Syria to what it was before the crisis and achieve self-sufficiency.

The signing ceremony was attended by Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Dr. Adnan Mahmoud and Iranian Ambassador to Damascus Jawad Turk Abadi
