Al-Kuzbari Hopes that the Constitutional Committee’s Future Meetings Will be Held in Damascus

GENEVA, (ST)- Head of the Syrian government’s delegation in the Constitutional Committee on Syria Ahmad Kuzbari, has stressed that the meetings of  the Committee’s expanded body held yesterday were good.

In a press conference on Friday in Geneva, he said that the code of conduct paper as well as the procedures that govern the work of small and expanded committees were approved.

He made it clear that the code of conduct paper and the procedures were discussed in Damascus where there were meetings with the UN Chief’s Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen in Syria  and view points were discussed on this topic. “We also held some meetings in Geneva until we reached the final formula agreed upon today,” he said.

According to al-Kuzbari, the small committee will start its meetings on Monday and will last for one week, expressing hope that the committee’s future meetings will be held in Damascus.

The committee’s work on the ground will determine the seriousness of the members, al-Kuzbari said, noting that national principles are red lines.

Al-Kuzbari pointed out that some parties’ interventions during the meetings indicated that many of them have not read the constitution of 2012, because many of their demands are originally provided in this constitution.

On his part, Pedersen affirmed that the topics discussed during the meetings concentrated on achieving the aspirations of the Syrian people.
