Lavrov and Zarif: the work of the Constitutional Discussion Committee should be carried out without any external interference
On October 29, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the foreign ministers of the guarantor countries (Russia, Iran and Turkey) renewed their commitment to the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria.
During a press conference in Geneva, Lavrov said that the guarantor states stress that the work of the Constitutional Discussion Committee should be carried out away from any external interference or impose timelines.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that there is no military solution to the Syrian crisis and the work of the Constitutional Discussion Committee is a step in the political solution to the crisis.
Zarif said that the Syrians decide the future of their country away from any external interference.
Zarif added that the guarantors of the Astana Peace Process should ensure that there is no outside interference in the work of the Constitutional Discussion Committee.
