Protests continue in Lebanon and warnings of continued road closures

Beirut, (ST) – Demonstrations continued throughout Lebanon today to demand better living conditions, prevent new taxes and hold corrupt people accountable amid warnings of continued road closures.

Several public and private institutions in Lebanon announced the closure of their doors for the thirteenth day in a row. Public and private schools, universities and institutes continued to be closed. The Association of Banks in Lebanon also announced the closure today.

The traffic control room reported that the South Beirut road was blocked in most of the regions, in addition to in Akkar, it was announced that most of the main and secondary roads connecting the area with the rest of Lebanon were closed.

Zahle road was cut off to Beirut at the Zahle Saadnayel roundabout in the Qib Elias Jadita junction and in the capital Beirut most internal roads are now closed with tires and protesters and cars were prevented from crossing most of these roads, which created confusion and tension between citizens and protesters.

The owners of the mills said in a statement that the stock is not enough for the country need for more than 18 days after the owners of plants and companies importing oil confirmed yesterday the existence of warnings about oil derivatives, while the majority of stations began to adopt rationing in the distribution of hydrocarbons in order to maintain the sustainability of its work and provide oil for a longer period.

Yesterday, a number of petrol stations were closed in Denniyeh due to the depletion of existing quantities of fuel and the failure of delivery of new quantities by distributing companies due to blocking roads and the inability of tanks to reach areas.
