Damascus welcomes US-Russia accord on Syria crisis settlement

Syria has welcomed the Washington-Moscowagreement to find a political solution for the crisis in Syria.

Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said in a statement issued today (Thursday)that The Syrian Arab Republic welcomes the US-Russian accord came after the US Secretary of State John Kerry’s talks in Moscow with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on May,7,2013.

The statement underlined Syria’s conviction that Russia has a firm stance based on the UN charter and international law principles particularly that related to not intervene in internal affairs of any state, and refrain in international relations from the threat or use of force against territorial integrity or political independence of any state.

“Credibility of the US stance to adopt the political solution for the crisis in Syria lies in its serious work with its allies to halt violence and terrorism to pave the ground for launching political dialogue.” The statement read.

It added that everyone must realize that only Syrian people decide their country’s future and constitution without any foreign meddling.

The statement, in addition, stressed that the Syria n government is moving forwards towards the materialization of the three-stage political plan outlined by President Bashar al-Assad on January ,6th.

The plan is based on Geneva Communiqué, which was adopted in June, 30, 2012 after the UN-backed Action Group for Syria meeting, to prepare for holding the comprehensive national dialogue in Damascus.
