Beijing calls on Washington not to interfere in its internal affairs

Beijing, ST- China has strongly condemned the US congress approval of the so-called” Hong Kong human rights and democracy law”.

“The current situation in Hong Kong is not related to  human rights and democracy. The real issue is to end violence immediately, restore security and protect the rule of law,” Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Foreign Geng Shuang said.

Ging stressed that the US congress distorts the facts by ignoring serious criminal offences such as arson, smashing shops, violence against police officers. 

He warned that the legislation of this law would not only harm China’s interests and Chinese -US relations, but also it would seriously harm the interests of the United States.

He added that China will certainly take strong countermeasures in response to the wrong decisions by the US to defend its sovereignty, security and development interests.

Ging reiterated that Hong Kong is a part of China and it is purely an internal Chinese affair, calling on the US to make a clear assessment of the situation and to immediately stop pushing legislation on Hong Kong.

The US congress had discussed yesterday legislation called the “Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act” within the framework of US policies based on interference in the affairs of independent and sovereign states.
