The Umbilical Cord” is a short film that casts light on the suffering of Syrian people as a result of the unfair terrorist war launched against Syria to achieve geo-political and economic objectives. Written by Rami Kusa and directed by Laith Hajo, the film has won a number of Arab and international awards and proved the strong presence of the Syrian cinema at Arab and international levels.
The director depicted the difficulties Syrian people faced in their daily life a result of the terrorist devastating acts with a special focus on the suffering of women, their patience, strong will and crucial role in the great victory realized by Syria against terrorism, its supporters and sponsors. The idea was tackled through a pregnant woman who wants to give birth to her baby amid the horrible acts of the armed terrorist groups that terrified people and prevented them from practicing the simplest things in their daily life. However, the woman was able to overcome all the problems and obstacles hindering her family’s normal life and give birth to her baby. Symbolically, the woman represents Syria which has been able to emerge victorious against the global terrorist war. The baby symbolizes for the start of a new stage in the Syrian people’s life, namely the process of reconstruction in all fields of life despite the impeding complications.
